The entire L'ATELIER experience is designed to foster constructive and meaningful feedback opportunities. Participants receive informal feedback during meals, at the aperitif hour evening readings, and on the walk back from dinner.

For more direct, focused feedback, writers may also sign up for structured feedback sessions from instructors.

Below are the two feedback options we offer. You can choose one, both, or neither. Whether informally over morning coffee or during an intensive group critique, we are excited to engage with you and your work.

Critique session with all three instructors

All three L'ATELIER instructors will meet with individual writers for 60 minutes to provide MFA-level critique on their work during an hour-long discussion. Writers will submit their work (20-30 pages) in advance of the retreat.

Individual meeting with one instructor

A 30-minute one-on-one meeting can be scheduled mid-week with one of the instructors to have a supportive dialogue about a work-in-progress, recently-written pages, or a problem the writer is confronting in their work.

Note: At L'ATELIER, participants do not read each other's work as part of our program. We find that most of our participants are attending because they need time to write and talk informally through their challenges in a supportive and inspiring community. This is one way we differ from traditional workshops where participants read each writer's work then critique the text.

Of course participants are welcome to forge their own partnerships with each other and exchange work if they create a connection with other writers.
